Happy First Day of Spring 2016

As usual, I started the day by reading online news and such. When doing so, up popped the cute animation above on Google. I then decided to read a little about Equinox, the subject for the list of topics that popped up when I clicked on the image.
Of course the first article was from Wikipedia, so I went with it as I was still on my first cup of coffee. Unfortunately, the article was much more technicle than I had expected (or was ready for).
An equinox is an astronomical event in which the plane of Earth's equator passes through the center of the Sun,[2] which occurs twice each year, around 20 March and 23 September.
On an equinox, day and night are of approximately equal duration all over the planet. They are not exactly equal, however, due to the angular size of the sun and atmospheric refraction. To avoid this ambiguity, the word equilux is sometimes used to mean a day in which the durations of light and darkness are equal.
These were the first two sentences of the article and the next few paragraphs didn't get any easier (check for yourself HERE). I am sure that you agree with me that this is way too much for the "first cup of coffee". I decided to take another look at the cute animation and then get another cup of coffee. By the way, the sun is shining and it's going to be a beautiful "Eqinox".
